Excelcare is NDIS ready!

The National Disability Insurance Scheme, or NDIS, will be rolling out in the Mackay region in November 2016. Excelcare is excited and prepared for this change, with a team ready to help you get the best result from the scheme.

The NDIS is currently rolling out over Queensland during a three year period. Beginning at the start of 2016, the scheme will be running state wide by July 2019. As of 1 November 2016, the NDIS will be available in the Mackay Disability Service Centre. This includes the local government areas of Mackay Regional, Isaac Regional and Whitsunday Regional.

The NDIS is the new way of providing individualised support for people with disability, their families and carers. It will provide eligible people with a flexible approach to the support needed to live their best life. The National Disability Insurance Agency is working closely with relevant departments and providers to ensure a smooth transition.

Excelcare is focused on achieving the best outcome possible from these changes for their current and future clients. Excelcare’s NDIS Coordinator, Kerrin Smith, says that, “Through our work with carers and people with a disability we understand the challenges you face in accessing quality services to help you live the life the way you choose.”

Through the NDIS, the person with a disability receives individual funding, enabling them to manage how they access support to live their life. Giving eligible people a lot more options and choice in how their support needs are met. This changes the way services are provided to Australians living with a disability.

Excelcare fully supports the NDIS and are completely prepared for these changes. Smith says that, “We will ensure consumers and carers achieve the best possible outcomes resulting from individualised services that meet the needs of participants under the NDIS.”

Excelcare understands how the processes of accessing these services can seem daunting and difficult. “Our fully equipped NDIS support team are here to help”, Smith says. While the National Disability Insurance Agency officially assesses all applications, Excelcare is there to assist with every step of the process. From preparing your application, to finding the right local services to suit your needs.

To be eligible for the NDIS right now, you must live in an area where the NDIS is available and be an Australian citizen, hold a Permanent Visa or Protected Special Category Visa. The disability requirements include; having an impairment or condition that is likely to be permanent and it reduces your ability to effectively participate in activities and perform tasks or actions.
